我々は，茨城県つくば市の小野川交流センター（旧小野川公民館）で月２回土曜日に活動しているサークルです。

500th memorial meeting (Feb.19th, 2011)

予め用意したスピーチや短い即席スピーチ、
慣れてきたら司会や講評も交代で行います。
By turns, each member delivers prepared speeches,
short impromptu speeches, evaluates other members’ speeches
and presides meetings.

　
トーストマスターズクラブは、1924年にアメリカで発足した、研究発表やテーブルスピーチなどパブリック・スピーキングの能力向上を目的とした、非営利の教育的自主サークルです。
世界113カ国に12,500以上のクラブがあり、26万人以上の会員がおります。日本には、北は北海道から南は九州まで、100以上のクラブに約2,700人の会員がいます。
　
当筑波クラブは、1985年に日本で12番目に設立された伝統あるクラブです。当初のメンバーは筑波研究支援センターの英語研修コースを終了した研究者が中心でした。現在は学生、事務系、技術者、主婦，研究者、教師、自営業など多彩で多才な、２０代から退職世代までのさまざまな年齢の，多国籍のメンバーが活躍しています。メンバーの使用言語は英語です。18歳以上で、英語スピーチの上達を目指す方ならどなたでも参加できます。

Tsukuba Toastmasters Club was established on April 15th 1985, as 12th Toastmasters club in Japan. Most of the first generation members were researchers of research institutes in Tsukuba-Science-City and ex-participants of English learning course of Tsukuba Research Center. Now, members are consisted from researchers, scientists, teachers, engineers, office workers, housewives, students and etc.. About 30% of members come from overseas countries. We are enjoying ourselves with toastmastering twice a month in Onogawa community center, Tsukuba city, Ibaraki prefecture. English is communication language in our club.

なお，別のクラブですが，日本語トーストマスターズクラブの「つくば和語クラブ」が、同じ会場で別の時間に活動しています。
東京のような都市部には、スピーチやプレゼンテーションでのあがりの克服や、コミュニケーションスキルの向上をめざした「話し方教室」が多くあるようです。
トーストマスターズクラブは教室ではなく市民サークルですが、ミーティングのたびに、全員の前で話す機会が必ず１回はあります。マニュアルに従ってスピーチや司会を繰り返して経験しながら、安い会費で楽しく活動するうちにコミュニケーションスキルが向上していきます。
ご興味のある方は、ぜひ「つくば和語クラブ」も覗いてみて下さい。

入会が認められたら、入会金4,000円(テキスト代を含む)と半年分の会費(1,000円／月)をお願いします。
When your membership is recognized, please pay entrance fee ¥4,000 and membership fee for half a year (¥1000/month).
